Welcome to Grade 4A's blog for 2014. Here you will find student work samples, student posts on different topics, links to popular learning websites as well as other news about what we are learning about in school. I hope that this space, along with the integration of iPads as an educational tool, helps 4A students to enhance their skills and thinking in order to become Smart, Safe and Responsible users of technology in this digital age. Hopefully it will also allow students to further share their learning journey with families at home. Enjoy!

The iPad Program

Hi everyone, Please provide some feedback about the iPad program so far. I would like to know: -What is your opinion about the activities using the iPad so far and WHY? (really fun, fun, boring) Please tell me your favourite and provide reasons for your feedback. You will probably need to use the word BECAUSE several times. -What suggestions do you have to make the program better? Consider how we could use them to enhance our learning in ways that we haven't already. I look forward to reading your responses. :) Kind regards, Ms Box

Our Work On Display

You may not be aware of our latest display structure. Each student has an allocated part of our display wall in the hallway. We can pick and choose what work we would like to have on display. It has been challenging for some to try and fit all the work we want to put up. Some of us have moved our name into the corner of our space as this allows more work to fit. Check out how much work Aaron has fit into his space! Veggie burger feedback about our display structure is very welcome. Thank you!

If These Animals Could Talk

As a follow up to last week's mini-lesson and practice session using quotation marks, here is an opportunity to practise the four rules for quotation marks using the computer keyboard. Choose which image you would like to use and write a conversation that that animal, or those animals, might be having if they could talk. Don't forget the 4 rules of quotation marks! If you need a reminder, check out the anchor chart in the classroom which we made last week!

Keep in touch Zafirah!

Today we say goodbye to a wonderful student, classmate and friend. This is a space on our blog where we can communicate with her, ask questions about her new school, share our exciting news and read about special things happening with Zafirah and her family. We can practise our quality blogging and keep in touch at the same time! :) Zafirah, we wish you well in Sydney.

A Quick Write - Ducks

Complete a Quick Write about this picture. It could be a quick story, description or simply your thoughts about this picture. You write observations, questions and inferences if you wish, like we do in Visual Literacy. Just make sure you EDIT your work for punctuation, spelling and checking that it makes sense please!

How Mountains Turn to Dust

Dear 4A, One of your blogging tasks for Reader's Workshop this week is to watch and comment on a short video. Click on the 4A link entitled "How Mountains Turn to Dust". Once you have finished watching it, please post your comment. Consider and answer some of these questions: Here are some thinking stems you could use: I learnt that... I wonder if... It is interesting that... The fact that...reminded me of... A new word I heard was... I think it means.... I look forward to reading your responses Grade 4. You will be able to read each other's and comment on them when they are published. From Ms Box

Reading Calculations

Ms Box has two children. (Not really! Just imagine...). They are twins and their names are Charlie and Charlotte. Charlie reads aloud to his mother for 20 minutes, five days a week. Charlotte reads for 20 minutes also, but only once a week. Think about this information and write an observation, prediction or question about this situation.
