Reading Calculations

Ms Box has two children. (Not really! Just imagine...). They are twins and their names are Charlie and Charlotte. Charlie reads aloud to his mother for 20 minutes, five days a week. Charlotte reads for 20 minutes also, but only once a week. Think about this information and write an observation, prediction or question about this situation.

  1. I think Charlie will be smarter than Charlotte because Charlie reads more however they could still be the same.

    1. Hi Aaron,

You gave a good answer to this, pointing out that there is more than one possibility. Can you make any calculations about how much more reading Charlie does than Charlotte...say...over a year? :)

    2. Dear Ms Box,

I calculated myself that in a year Charlie would of read for 5,200 minutes.
I worked it out by working out how many minutes he read a week which is 100 minutes than since there is 52 weeks in a year I worked out what 100 x 52 is and I figured that the answer is 5,200.I also found out that Charlotte reads 1,040 minutes a year.

    3. Dear Aaron,

Well done on your maths calculations. Can you now work out how to convert the number of minutes into hours? With that information we could probably also work out what the equivalent is in days as well!

It is wonderful to see you so active on the blog, Aaron!

      See you tomorrow,
      Ms Box
